Annual Report &

Annual Report & Financial Statements 2023 Implementing our Partnership Model Cont. Strategic Report For our subcontractors, we utilise the CHAS Advanced Scheme to ensure not only proficiency in health and safety matters but also compliance with good anti-modern slavery and anti-bribery and corruption p r a c ti ce s . We are engaging the Supply Chain Sustainability School to make use of Modern Slavery training resources for colleagues involved in supply chain activities, in addition to our current e-learning programmes. For more information on Modern Slavery, see the statement on our website. As part of this process, we are also sharing knowledge of low carbon products to capture further improvements. In FY23 we used 5 million low carbon bricks, procured through Marshalls Plc, which use a low cement content and produce 50% less carbon during manufacture. This allowed us to save 554 tonnes of carbon in the homes we built in the year. “Keepmoat are valued Partners of the Supply Chain Sustainability School and are active participants in the School’s Homes Group, supporting industry-wide efforts towards a greener and more sustainable supply chain. We’ve particularly valued their input into our virtual conference on “A Greener Supply Chain: the homebuilders’ view”, which was a milestone conference in communicating the net zero challenge to suppliers.” Sophie Coyle, Partner Relations and Sector Manager (Homes), Supply Chain Sustainability School. Our trades and materials supply chain activities provide excellent economic opportunities in the places where we build. During the last financial year, we supported local suppliers of materials and labour with £316.2m worth of contracts generating £237.2m of social value. 53% of our supply chain spend was made within 30 miles of the site. The use of KPI data to monitor the performance of our supply chain partners allows for early identification of any potential risks to supply and any performance concerns, whilst also strengthening relationships by providing a platform for feedback. The housebuilding supply chain has continued to face significant challenge in FY23 and has continued to show great resilience. High energy prices continue to impact on energy intensive manufacturing processes which, together with other ongoing geo-political volatility, has contributed to continued high inflation through the year. While availability of building materials has now returned to pre-pandemic levels, we continue to manage the supply and demand of materials closely to prevent any constraints, in preparation for a return to more favourable market conditions for the housebuilding sector. Sustainability in the supply chain We promote sustainability within the supply chain in line with our sustainable procurement policy and through engagement with our suppliers. In addition to direct engagement, we are a partner of the Supply Chain Sustainability School and active participants on its Homes Group. The Group builds capacity and knowledge in the homebuilding supply chain, helping coordinate the efforts of homebuilders to make change. In October, our CEO Tim Beale spoke to open the school’s low carbon homebuilding supply chain conference: “A Greener Supply Chain, the Homebuilders’ View” alongside the School’s Chair, Shaun McCarthy OBE. In parallel we have launched a project to understand the embodied carbon in the materials used to build our homes using the best available information from suppliers and identifying areas for data improvement. To support this and other aspects of sustainability maturity in the supply chain, we have onboarded all our direct supply chain partners with the support of the Achilles BuildingConfidence accreditation and were the first homebuilder to do so. The Achilles BuildingConfidence network enables suppliers to share information and documentation on risks, ethical practices and sustainability credentials as well as monitoring and evaluating their own supply chains, to improve performance and assist in building stronger and long-lasting relationships with their suppliers. A greener supply chain We have launched a project to understand the embodied carbon in the materials used to build our homes using the best available information from suppliers and identifying areas for data improvement. 66 KEEPMOAT.COM 67
