Annual Report and financial statements for the year ended 31 October 2021.

SOCIAL VALUE Delivering

SOCIAL VALUE Delivering social value We use the term social value to describe the environmental, social and economic benefits generated through the outcomes of our business activities, both locally and nationally, over the short, medium and long-term. Throughout the development process we strive to create positive outcomes for communities, partners and our other stakeholders. This approach is at the core of how we do business and enables us to develop strong relationships with public sector partners, purchase brownfield land at low cost and deliver positive environmental, social and economic outcomes, creating thriving new communities. Our strength in this area comes through our team of expert Social Impact Managers that understand local priorities and focus on engaging stakeholders at all stages to understand and deliver the outcomes they want to see. Over the past year we have focused on moving from local level excellence on key projects to furthering national consistency, including formalising our best practices into a consistent framework to optimise the delivery of social value outcomes for all stakeholder groups. During the year: • We created the Social Value Working Group that meets monthly to share best practice and implements nationallevel improvements. • Created national Social Value Standards incorporating best practice approaches. • Set up a sustainability and social value reporting tool to improve the way we collect data. • Delivered training on social value to the industry, via the Supply Chain Sustainability School. • Successfully applied for a Social Value Management Certificate Level 1 to upgrade our Social Value UK Pioneer status. An outstanding example of this work is our Preston Road development in Hull which won a 2021 Social Value UK Award in the development category. The Preston Road development is the epitome of how the local community, the Council and private sector can come together to regenerate an area, stimulate private investment and deliver truly transformational change. Located in one of the lowest 1% of deprived areas nationally, this community has low levels of skills (nearly half the population have no qualifications) and wages, high levels of unemployment and benefit reliance, poor health and high levels of crime. An extensive community engagement and skills programme has delivered huge change and regeneration in a challenging environment. Over the reporting period we delivered £201m of social value in local communities by integrating social value delivery into our core business activities, including: • Spending £227m with local suppliers • The delivery of 1,528 affordable homes • Supporting healthy lifestyles with 94% of our homes within 500m of a public transport node • We and our sub-contractors employed 41 apprentices • We supported 7 young people not in employment, education or training (NEETs) into employment and delivered employment support to 89 young people • We provided 13 work experience placements and spent over 240 hours in schools and colleges promoting careers in construction. 12 KEEPMOAT.COM
